Cefalonia
is the
greatest Island of blue and calm Ionian sea.
Its surface is 737 kmqs, it is 1628 metres high and it has 31.000
inhabitants. Its chief town is Argostoli. It is crossed by calcareous and
bare Reliefs, the summit highest is the Enos Mountain: its hight is 1628
metres; it has soil valleys with rich vegetation. It is encircled by
innumerable bays. Cefalonia is an interesting Island with its Enos
mountain which emerges from waters as a pyramid with its black fir that is
unique in the world.

THE HISTORY
In
Odyssey the two Islands: Same and Dulichion belonged to Itacas’ Kingdom.
During VI and V century b.c. Corinto was very influential in this Island
as well as in Corfu too but this situation lasted until 456 when Tolmide
compelled the Island to form an alliance with Athens.
In
that time rose in Cefalonia the Cities – State of Same, Pronni, Crane
and Pale. During the III century the Island formed an alliance with
Aetolia; it took part in a
war against Philip V of Macedonia in 220 – 217 b.c. and against Rome,
coming under its jurisdiction in 189 b.c. According to recent studies they
told that S. Paul travelling Rome didn’t get ashore at Malta but at
Cefalonia
